Arts Committee Meeting

Please join us for a meeting of the Arts Committee of St. Andrew’s. This will be the first time in many years that we’ve actually met in person.

Everyone is invited to participate, whether or not you have been involved in the past.

Some items to discuss:

1. Filling the fisherman’s net in the parish hall, currently pretty empty and in need of some fish – with the involvement of children and youth.
Lynne Slater noted: “It would be nice to continue the project that Barbara Simon and Charlie Jones started. I have a lonely catfish up there and have been meaning to add a jellyfish. I think it would be a good project for kids — paper mache maybe? Nice & messy, but can produce some cool 3D fish
2. As many of you know, Gerry Hendershot is proposing that a mural be created on the brick wall on the exterior of the north wall of the church. Since Gerry’s original proposal, several of us have learned much about mural painting and (thanks to Mal Niedner’s painstaking research) about the history of the flaky black sealant on the brick wall.
3. Exhibition of artworks by parishioners of all ages.
4. Consider organizing some kind of arts contest open to UMD students (and others) to expand the impact of the Steele Collection of prints and artworks. We could exhibit student works around the time of the Absalom Jones celebration in February 2024. We had talked about such a project with Bob and Jean Steele at the time of their gift, but never followed up on it. We could ask the David Driskell Center at UMD for their assistance.
