Children’s Formation

Children at St. Andrew’s are encouraged to grow in their faith through a variety of activities:

KidSpark (our Sunday school program) for children aged pre-K through 5th grade is offered most Sundays during the school year during the 10:30 a.m. service. Children process out following the opening prayers in the service and head downstairs to their rooms. They return to join their families in time for communion. For children who wish to remain in church and not participate in KidSpark, activity bags are available during worship each Sunday on a cart in the back of the sanctuary. For our youngest children who may need to squirm, a “soft space” is available in a side room at the back of the church, where you will find books and soft toys available for your child.

We also offer a children’s and youth choir, Joyful Noise. Joyful Noise rehearses on Sunday afternoons, following the 10:30 a.m. service, during the school year and sings in the Sunday worship service approximately once each month.

Children have the opportunity to have their backpacks blessed at the start of the school year, participate in our no-rehearsal Christmas pageant on Christmas Eve, and take part in other special events. We present Bibles to our kids at milestone ages: storybook Bibles for our younger kids and full Bibles with age-appropriate notes and insights for our older kids.

Families may also get a free copy of the book Faithful Families to get ideas for forming faith at home. Contact our rector, the Rev. Tim Johnson ( or 301-864-8880, to get your copy or to sign up for our “Parents & Guardians” email list.
