Outreach
As followers of Jesus, we believe we are called to put our faith into action. We do this through combating homelessness and poverty, advocating for the vulnerable, and seeking to abolish unjust social and economic systems. Our concern and care also extend to creation itself (the natural world), as we believe God calls us to be faithful stewards of all that has been entrusted to us. We also support the work and ministry of the church here at St. Andrew’s and throughout the world. At St. Andrew’s, we sponsor and participate in several ministries that enable us to live into God’s call to care for others, protect the natural world, and support the church. A brief description of some of these ministries may be found in the dropdown menu bar above. We are also open to new ideas and possibilities to be in service to others, so if you have a suggestion or idea, please speak to our rector (priest).
In addition to the below, we are collecting non-perishable foodstuffs for the Blessing Box in the Princeton Avenue Parking lot, and period supplies (pads, tampons, etc) for the University of Maryland community.
Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE)
Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment (CUCE) was formed in 1995 when a group of local clergy gathered together with a desire to help individuals and families in need in our community. Today, more than twenty congregations support CUCE through financial support and providing volunteers. St. Andrew’s is one of CUCE’s partnering congregations. Among the services provided by CUCE is the PG Plaza Day Center for individuals experiencing homelessness. The Day Center is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., and provides a warm environment where participants may relax, socialize, receive a hot meal, shower, do laundry, and receive addiction-recovery support.
